Besides the sea, beaches, and mountains, summer in Montenegro also means festivals. Whether you like tradition, music, movies, or wines, expect to find something that suits your taste. Summer vibes are definitely here when we have a chance to attend a concert in one of the Old Towns, or taste wines from around Europe in one of the most exclusive places in Montenegro. Therefore, enough with the introduction here’s our list of some of our favorite festivals in Montenegro.
Made in New York Jazz Festival – June 17 – 26
The sounds of New York Jazz come to Montenegro every June for the past couple of years. This year, you can enjoy two editions of the festival, as they want to make up for missing a year during the pandemic. So, the Sixth edition will take place from June 17 to 19, and the Seventh edition will be from June 24 to 26. On both occasions, the concerts will be held in Capital Plaza and Sejdefa Club in Podgorica and in Porto Montenegro. Another bonus is a Surprise concert in Podgorica on June 21. Kotor Art – July 1 – August 14
KotorArt is one of the largest art festivals in the country and the region. During its six weeks, it brings music, literature, theatre, and philosophy events, as well as painting and sculpture exhibitions. The events take place in different locations in Kotor. So, depending on which one you choose to attend, you might find yourself in one of the Old Town squares or in the beautiful Church of the Holy Spirit. The opening ceremony is set for July 1 in front of the St. Tryphon Cathedral, and the full program is yet to be announced. You can follow our website or www.kotorart.me for updated information.
SuperWine – 2 July
An exciting wine tasting event that brings together carefully selected winemakers from Montenegro and the region. You can taste a variety of wine choices from Montenegro, the region, and from around Europe. SuperWine will take place on Saturday, July 2, 2022, in Porto Montenegro Yacht Club from 8 pm to 12 am. Tickets will be available at the location only on the day of the event and will cost €35.00. DJ performances will also be part of the program. Fašinada – July 22
Fašinada is a traditional ceremony held in Perast dating back five centuries. It’s held on July 22, the date on which, by the legend, a sailor found an icon at the rock that was turned into Our Lady of the Rocks Island. On that day, the men in Perast circle in boats around the island and throw stones under it, to strengthen the foundation. We definitely recommend attending this unique traditional event.
Sea Dance – August 26 – 28
Sea Dance Festival is a summer music festival held at Buljarica Beach in Montenegro on August 26 to 28. The festival is part of Exit organization, so you can expect a similar vibe and several stages with various music. The main stage is the biggest one, and for now the festival confirmed two Eurovision sensations – Kalush Orchestra from Ukraine and Konstrakta from Serbia, as well as Dubioza Kolektiv, a regional band. Operosa – Montenegro Opera Festival – August
Operosa is a relatively young festival and the only opera festival in Montenegro. It’s held at the Kanli Kula, the beautiful fortress in the city, which has an amphitheater. This year’s dates and schedule are not announced yet, but we know it will be held in August. Follow the Operosa website for updated schedule and ticket information.
Boka Night (Bokeška Noć) – August
Boka Night is a traditional festival held in Kotor every year in the second half of August. The central event a parade of boats with “masks” in the bay in front of Kotor. The parade is followed by music and concerts in front and in Kotor Old Town and the celebration lasts through the night. The date for this year is not announced yet, so follow our website for an update.
Ada Divine Awakening – September 13 – 18
Ada Divine Awakening is a special festival dedicated to consciousness and, as the organizers announce open hearts and free spirits. It’s held at Ada Bojana sand beach, at the southernmost point of Montenegro, near the city of Ulcinj. The festival is a combination of mindfulness, meditation and intimacy workshops and music and arts performances. Find more information at: https://adawakening.me/about/.
Tivat Film Festival – September 16 – 21
A rich cultural and cinematic experience, the inaugural edition of this international festival will feature the work of 24 filmmakers from around the Mediterranean.
